EVENT PLANNING

SFU Surrey Open House
Every year, Simon Fraser University hosts a community event that opens its doors to over 5,000 people. My role was to organize and coordinate students, projects, instructors, volunteers, team members, promotional materials and overall recruitment strategies. The most important things I learned were how to become a leader and how to adapt to almost any situation by staying calm and working with the flow.

SIAT Mixer & SIAT Jam
We created the SIAT Mixer and SIAT Jam event to help our students connect with industry members, alumni, instructors and other fellow students in a creative and social environment. With my team, I researched and booked event locations and caterers. I planned the event schedule and activities and promoted the event through different platforms which included social media, word-of-mouth and print materials. I learned how to promote and communicate to our audiences through different mediums.

Wedding Planner
My involvement with wedding planning began after my manager at SIAT noticed my organizational and event planning skills and asked if I could help plan her big day! Learning about each couple and being there for one of the biggest events of their lives was my favourite part of the job. I also really enjoyed working with the venue, caterers and staging. Taking part in bringing everything together for the couple and all the people that care about them was an amazing experience. By planning weddings, I gained a different perspective on event planning. I learned how to listen to the couples and how to create special events that best reflected each couple’s personality and relationship.
